Beaufort Sea Located north of the Northwest Territories, the Yukon and Alaska, and part of the Arctic Ocean, the Beaufort Sea is completely frozen throughout parts of the year. Covering an area of approximately 450,000 sq km (170,000 sq mi), the sea is a habitat for whales and sea birds. |

Arctic Ocean Located in the northern most reaches of the globe, the Arctic Ocean is the smallest and shallowest of the world's five oceans. Classified by many as a sea, the Arctic is home to various species of whale, which have helped to sustain First Nations communities in far northern regions for several hundred years. Occupying an area of approximately 14,056,000 sq km (5,440,000 sq mi), much of the Arctic remains frozen throughout the year.
